PTE Speaking Test – Scoring Criteria

For test takers who want to boost their PTE exam preparation online, check out this ultimate guide to the speaking test scoring criteria:

1. Content

In the PTE speaking test, you will encounter six various tasks (personal introduction, read aloud, repeat a sentence, describe an image, re-tell lecture, and answer a short question.) Each task requires you to give a clear and concise response. The content of your responses will be marked based on 0 to 5 scoring scale (5 highest to 0 lowest.)

2. Pronunciation

Pronunciation is measured by clear and natural articulation that is understandable to a native English speaker. For students enrolled in PTE online training course program, don’t try to imitate accents like US, Australian or British accent. Remember that pronunciation is different from accent.

The following is the scoring scale for the pronunciation in the speaking test:

5 – You will get five marks if your pronunciation is native English speaker-like.

4 – If your pronunciation is advanced.

3– You will earn three marks if your pronunciation is good

2– Test takers will get two marks if their pronunciation is intermediate.

1– For test takers who are speaking in intrusive pronunciation.

0 – If your pronunciation is poor.

3. Oral Fluency

Oral fluency is assessed by the flow of the speech and the proper use of the language. For test takers who want to hone their PTE exam preparation online, keep in mind that fluency isn’t speeding your speech, so make sure that you speak clearly and calmly.

5 – Five marks are given if your fluency is native English speaker-like.
